As we age, we tend to lose volume in our faces. This includes soft tissues such as fat and muscle in the face but also volume in the midface and cheeks. This can lead to a "gaunt" appearance and create premature aging. 

 

One place this tends to show is in the lines around the mouth or nasolabial folds. This is one of the most common places doctors place fillers. 

 

Dr. Azzi prefers to assess each patient individually instead of blindly injecting fillers such as Juvederm into these folds. 

 

Many patients DO require some volume in these folds, but over-injecting these folds or injecting these folds when the real issue is the cheeks can both cause an unnatural appearance.
