Types of Facelifts

Types of Facelifts

If you’ve reached that point in your life where you think it’s time to consider some facial surgery, it is definitely important to understand your options. Facelift procedures are amazing for helping people achieve that highly sought after youthful and rested appearance. Choosing the type of facelift you want might not be as easy as explaining the results you’re looking for though.

Doctor Jean-Paul Azzi of The Palm Beach Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery is a double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in procedures of the face, nose and neck. Dr. Azzi’s facelifting techniques are so highly specialized that there are only a few dozen surgeons in the country who are able to use the same technique.

What makes doctors like Dr. Azzi so amazing at their profession is the advanced knowledge and guidance they provide their patients. While you should definitely seek guidance out from your doctor, it may help to first understand the true differences between facelifting procedures.

In cosmetic surgery, there are several forms of facelifting procedures:

1. The Mini-Facelift:

This procedure targets signs of aging in the lower face like sagging jowls and excess skin. This procedure is not designed for severe signs of aging, but can create smoother appearance and contour. Typically, the best candidates for the mini-facelift are younger patients who have a well-defined lower face and neck. The incisions from a mini-lift are tiny and unnoticeable. Scarring is typically minimal and recovery time is very short. Click here to view before & after gallery.

2. The Mid-Facelift:

This particular procedure targets the midface region to help reduce sagging and reduce deep creases in the skin. Again, this procedure is best for patients who do not have mass amounts of excess skin around the neck. The mid-facelift is great for enhancing facial definition, increasing the cheek contour lines, eliminating nasolabial folds and improving the lower eyelids. This can also be performed along with other types of facial procedures if it is needed.

3. The Deep Plane Facelift:

This lift procedure is great for targeted areas like the cheeks and neck. During this facelift, muscle tissue is lifted while also lifting the skin to correct heavy cheeks, neck sagging and skin laxity. Since this procedure is a little more involved, it does have a slightly longer healing process than a mini or mid-lift.

4. The Lower Facelift:

Just like the name says, this type of facelifting procedure addresses the lower half of the face. This includes most structures from the cheek bones to the Adam’s apple.

5. Submental Liposuction OR Neck Lift:

While these procedures are not actually facelifts, they are performed so frequently with facelifts that patients often times get confused. For many men and women, the neck causes much distress. Submental liposuction targets excess amounts of fat in the neck and can be extended into the jowls region. Patients with minimal laxity in the skin of the neck are usually considered prime candidates for neck liposuction due to the nature of the procedure. Older patients are usually candidates for a neck lift which Dr. Azzi performs in conjunction with almost every facelift he performs.
