Is Chin Augmentation Surgery Right for You?

Dr. Azzi believes that every detail and element of facial form is interconnected and important. The chin is no exception. In fact, the chin is considered to be one of the primary facial features that helps to provide a harmonious balance to one’s face. Many men and women feel that they have a “weak chin” and wish to have a more defined chin and jawline to balance their facial profile.

Chin augmentation surgery, or mentoplasty, is a low-risk surgical procedure that reshapes or enhances the chin to create dramatic yet natural-looking results. Chin surgery can be done by moving or reshaping the bone or by inserting an implant in the chin.

Although chin augmentation can be performed on its own, Dr. Azzi will often recommend chin surgery to a patient having a related procedure such as rhinoplasty (nose job) in order to achieve ideal facial proportions, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. A chin augmentation is also a common complement to facelift surgery because an implant can help reduce the jowls and lengthen the jawline.

Dr. Azzi expertly tailors each chin augmentation procedure to fit the contours and form of the individual patient’s face, taking into account any concurrent treatments and expected changes to the face over time.

Chin augmentation is rapidly becoming one of the most popular procedures I perform,” said Dr. Azzi. “Maybe it’s because of all the great new implants that are available? Perhaps patients are becoming more sophisticated? Maybe both? The interesting thing is that most men and women don’t specifically come for a consultation regarding their chin. In general, they dislike the overall proportions of their facial features, but cannot pinpoint all the contributing factors.”

How do you know if you’re a good candidate for chin surgery?

  • Your facial bones have reached physical maturity (occurs after late adolescence)

  • You’re bothered by your small chin, weak jaw, or lack of facial contours

  • You have no major medical conditions

  • You have a positive outlook and specific goals in mind

Surgical chin augmentation is performed right in our office under local anesthesia. Recovery after chin surgery is generally quite quick. Swelling and bruising will down down after a week. Most patients report that there is either no pain or only a mild discomfort after surgery. The final results of chin surgery will be apparent after 2-3 weeks after all the swelling goes down and you will continue to see improvement for a minimum of 6 weeks.

In addition to surgical chin augmentation, Dr. Azzi frequently performs chin augmentations using only fillers. It is a painless, 10 minute procedure performed in the Jupiter or Palm City office. Results will last 9-24 months depending on the patient.

Patients trust their faces to the skilled hands of Dr. Azzi because of his exclusive focus on plastic surgery of the face, nose and neck.
