Endoscopic Mid-facelift FAQs

Endoscopic facelifts can be a more affordable and less invasive alternative to conventional plastic surgery. They involve few risks and have a short recovery period, while addressing many of the same signs of aging as a traditional facelift.

The endoscopic mid-facelift permits the repositioning of hard-to-reach areas such as the folds around the nose and the heaviness surrounding the mouth and jawline. It vertically lifts and redefines sagging cheeks and jowls to create increased cheek volume and create a more defined profile. It is known for refreshing the appearance and adding a more youthful look to the face. In many cases, it is performed in conjunction with a traditional facelift, eyelid lift or blepharoplasty, endoscopic eyebrow lift or cheek augmentation to achieve optimal results.

Who are the best candidates for an endoscopic mid-facelift?

The endoscopic mid-facelift is an ideal option for patients in their late 30s to 80s, but the flexibility of the procedure allows it to be customized to fit the patient’s needs at any age. The best candidates for an endoscopic mid-facelift are individuals who have moderate facial imperfections caused by loosened facial muscles and excess fatty tissue. This includes cheeks that are starting to sag, noticeable lines surrounding the nose, and downturned, thin lips.

How is an endoscopic mid-facelift performed?

Tiny access points are made in the hair. An endoscope is inserted into the incisions to help guide the the facial plastic surgeon as he or she lifts the cheeks and brow and secures them in their previous, more youthful, position. The relocation of this tissue to its natural (higher) position gives definition to the cheeks and neckline. It is an outpatient procedure, and the surgery itself generally lasts 1 to 2 hours.

What are the benefits of an endoscopic mid-facelift?

Endoscopic mid-facelift surgery permanently reverses the earliest signs of aging in the middle of the face. The effects do not diminish within months as if injectable fillers were used. Dr. Azzi prides himself on natural looking results, so the result is never obvious looking; the face simply looks refreshed and more youthful.

What should be expected from an endoscopic mid-facelift?

Dr. Azzi believes that it’s very important for prospective patients to have a realistic understanding of the results that can be achieved from an endoscopic mid-facelift. He takes the time to make sure his patients are well-informed about the procedure and always welcomes questions. Although an endoscopic mid-facelift will make you look younger than your chronologic age, you will continue to age after the procedure. The good news is that you will always look about 10 years younger than you would look without the procedure.

Is an endoscopic mid-facelift painful?

Pain is not common after an endoscopic mid-facelift. Instead, patients generally feel a “tight” sensation, temporary numbness and mild discomfort.

Are there risks/complications involved with an Endoscopic Mid-facelift?

Complications are uncommon with an endoscopic mid-facelift, but as is the case with any surgical procedure, it does carry some risks. Risks include temporary numbness, hematoma (blood under the skin), seroma (fluid under the skin), infection and hair loss. Dr. Azzi will assess individual risks prior to the procedure, especially those related to high blood pressure, tendency to scar, smoking, and any deficiency in blood clotting.

What should be expected during the recovery period?

Because an endoscopic mid-facelift involves only a few tiny incisions, it produces minimal bruising and swelling. Although it varies from patient to patient, it generally takes about one to two weeks for the majority of the swelling and bruising to fade, and you can expect some cheek swelling to persist for around 3 weeks after the procedure. Most patients are able to cover the bruising using make-up.

You can return to your usual activities (including exercise) one to two weeks after the procedure. Throughout this period, you will have post-op appointments with Dr. Azzi at The Palm Beach Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery to monitor your progress.
